The weekend saw 4 MEC athletes don the green and gold to represent Australia at the world level.

UCI Gran Fondo World Champs

Shane O'Sullivan proudly put on the Australia cycle kit over in Perth for the UCI Gran Fondo Worlds. Shane got through the 155km course with over 2200m of climbing in good shape. A great lead in race before final preparations begin for Buellton Ironman later this year.

70.3 World Champs

Leanne Keating, Sarah Hardy and Monica Liston headed to QLD to take on the Ironman 70.3 Worlds at the Sunshine Coast.

All 3 ladies were very excited to be representing and competing. Mon and Leanne were consistent enough throughout the last 12months to earn themselves spots on the start line via the 'points' system that Ironman had implemented for this race. Both had good days with Mon finishing 69th in 25-29 and Leanne finishing 70th in 45-49.  Mon starts her build towards her first Ironman in Busselton later this year while Leanne prepares for the build towards Ultraman next May.

For Sarah this was her goal race for this year after making steady improvements at the last 2 70.3 World Championships. Mechanical luck was not on her side on Sunday which left her unable to ride her bike like she was capable of. A huge credit to her character she got on and did what she could finishing 55th in 30-34. Being the gracious competitor she is Sarah has made it clear she has no excuses but it is clear she is lined up for a strong back part of the year.

I could see the thought put into my training plan

"My motivation increased when I could see the thought put into my training plan and the difference it made in my result. The sessions were built for what I needed and I felt strong all day racing. Most of all I could feel Michael cared, so a very big thank you."
