It was the event of the weekend for the Melbourne based triathlon community with athletes heading to the Gatorade Race 5 at St Kilda. With no wind and pleasant temperatures it made for near perfect race conditions, a contrast to the hot and windy St Kilda race back in January. Last weekend had a mixed bag of formats for the MEC athletes. Saturday was kicked off with the St Kilda mile swim event with Travis Hill taking on the mile (1.6k for the metric folk) and Adrian Polidano going around in the 3.8km event both having strong swims. Last weekend saw a mixture of racing from the MEC athletes. Chantelle Reiter and Travis Hill got out for an 8k local fun run Saturday afternoon. Chantelle has been working diligently on getting her running going and keeping injury free. Saturday was another positive step for her in her progress. Across the ditch we went with 4 athletes going around IM New Zealand on what was a windy day. Matt Carmen carried great form into the race and was in a good position on the bike before a mechanical. After fixing Matt got on and finished the day off well. A credit to Matt for his resilience as his last 2x ironmans have had bike issues with 3x flats at Cairns last year.
